The basis of any invest is to beat inflation, you see if inflation rises quicker/more than your income or if your income remains the same in a given period, then you are basically getting poorer and poorer.
This also applies to personal growth and life in general, if one is not continuously improving their lives, then they are continuously getting worse or moving farther from their goals.
